How it works

01 / Export

Get the CSV

Download your transactions from your bank's website as a CSV file. Any bank or card works, plus PayPal and Stripe.

02 / Fix

Drop it above

We find the date, description and amount, whatever your bank calls them, and fix the format. Check the preview.

03 / Import

Upload to QuickBooks

In QuickBooks Online, open Bank transactions, choose Upload from file, and pick the fixed CSV.

Why QuickBooks rejects bank CSV files

QuickBooks Online only imports 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), up to 1,000 lines and 350 KB per file. Bank exports rarely match, so the upload fails or imports money the wrong way. Source: Intuit's upload guide.

Questions

How many files can I fix for free?

2 files a week without an account, each up to 2 MB. With a free account you get 5 files a week, each up to 5 MB. Statement Fixer ($6 a month) is unlimited, with files up to 25 MB and an export history, and every converter plan includes it.

Is my bank file uploaded anywhere?

On the free plan, no. The fixer runs inside your browser and the fixed file goes straight to your downloads. With Statement Fixer, the fixed file (not your original) is also saved to your account for 90 days so you can download it again. You can delete it any time, or switch on auto-delete after 24 hours.

What CSV format does QuickBooks Online need?

Either 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount, with money out as a negative number) or 4 columns (Date, Description, Credit, Debit). Every date must use the same format, and amounts must be plain numbers.

Why are my credit card transactions backwards in QuickBooks?

Many card exports show purchases as positive numbers. QuickBooks reads positive as money in, so it flips them. Tick "Swap money in and money out" before you download and they'll import the right way.

QuickBooks says my file is too big. What do I do?

QuickBooks Online takes up to 1,000 lines and 350 KB per upload. The fixer splits bigger files into parts automatically. Upload them one after another.

Which banks' CSV files work?

Any transactions CSV: Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo (even without column titles), Capital One, Citi, American Express, Barclays and others, plus PayPal and Stripe exports. Semicolon-separated files and amounts like "1.234,56" work too.

Is there a Chrome extension?

Yes. Statement Fixer for Chrome offers to fix a bank CSV as soon as you download it, with the same free files and the same account as this page. It never reads your bank's website.

Does it work with QuickBooks Desktop or Xero?

The 3-column CSV also imports into Xero and most other accounting software. QuickBooks Desktop needs a .qbo file, which our converter's paid plans create from PDF statements.
