Your loan officer wants two months of bank statements, and your money sits at Chase. Getting a Chase bank statement for mortgage paperwork right comes down to three things: the right months, every page and no surprises in the deposits. Before you send anything, convert your Chase statement to Excel so you see what the underwriter will see.
Quick answer: Download your two latest full Chase statements as PDFs for every account holding your down payment, closing costs or reserves. Send every page, even blank ones. Fannie Mae rules ask for one full month on a refinance. Make sure the newest statement is recent, and be ready to explain any deposit over half your monthly income.

Which Chase bank statement for a mortgage should you send?
Most lenders want your two most recent statements for each account you're using for the down payment, closing costs or reserves. The CFPB's loan application packet checklist lists the two most recent bank statements. For down payment money held in savings, it asks for statements showing at least two months of ownership.
Fannie Mae sets the rules for the loans it buys from lenders, and many lenders follow them. Here's how Fannie Mae's rules for verifying deposits and assets treat a purchase and a refinance.
| Fannie Mae rule | Buying a home | Refinancing |
|---|---|---|
| Period the statements must cover | The most recent full two months of activity | The most recent full month of activity |
| Accounts that report quarterly | The most recent quarter | The most recent quarter |
| Large deposits | The lender must document where the money came from | No explanation required |
Your lender's own list always wins, because each lender can ask for more. Chase's mortgage guide says the documents required vary by lender. Our guide to how lenders in four countries read bank statements covers the rules outside Chase.
How do you get Chase statements ready to send?
A Chase bank statement for mortgage purposes is the monthly PDF Chase issued, not a printout of recent activity. Download one file per month, from a computer if you can. A computer makes it easier to check each file before it goes out.
- Sign in at chase.com, open the Main Menu and choose Statements & documents. In the Chase Mobile app, it's under Profile & Settings, then Document manager.
- Pick the account first, then the year. Repeat for your savings and any other account the lender named.
- Save each month as its own PDF with a clear name, such as "chase-checking-2026-09.pdf".
- Open every file and check the page count. The CFPB says to include every page of a multi-page document, even pages marked "intentionally left blank".
- Send the PDF itself rather than a printout you've scanned. Fannie Mae accepts statements you download from the bank's website, as long as they clearly name the bank.
One Chase detail catches people out. Accounts with a common owner can be combined on one statement, so the PDF for your checking account may also show a savings account or CD. You can ask Chase to separate them, but that only changes future statements. The ones you already have go to the lender as they are.
If the lender wants months from a while back, check how far back Chase keeps statements online before you call the bank.
How do Chase statement periods fit the two-month rule?
In practice, two full months means your two latest monthly statements, back to back. Chase statement periods run 28 to 32 days and don't always line up with the calendar month, so read the dates printed on each one rather than assuming "August and September".
Freshness matters too. Under Fannie Mae's rules, if your latest statement is more than 45 days older than your application date, the lender should get a more recent update from the bank.
Worked example: is my latest statement recent enough?
- You apply on October 22, 2026.
- Your latest Chase statement ended on September 30. That's 22 days earlier, so you're fine.
- Now say you only downloaded up to the statement ending August 31. That's 52 days before the application, past the 45-day line, so expect a request for something newer.
Chase Business Complete Checking statements always end on the last business day of the month. If you're self-employed and your business account is part of the picture, that makes the dates easy to predict.
Watch the last few days of a period. Chase statements list completed transactions only, so a transfer still pending when the period closed won't show until the next statement. If you moved down payment money at the end of the month, the lender may need that next statement too.
What does an underwriter look for on your Chase statements?
First, that the statement is complete and clearly yours. Fannie Mae says it must name the bank and show you as the account holder with at least the last four digits of the account number. It must also show the period covered and every deposit and withdrawal. The ending balance has to be there too.
Next, the deposits. Under Fannie Mae's large deposit rule, a single deposit counts as large when it's more than 50% of your total monthly qualifying income. On a purchase, the lender has to document where that money came from if it's needed for the loan.
The lender doesn't need extra paperwork when the statement itself makes the source clear. Fannie Mae's examples include payroll direct deposits, Social Security payments, tax refunds and transfers between your own verified accounts.
Worked example: finding large deposits
Take the March statement for our fictitious Demo Company LLC, with a qualifying income of $4,000 a month. Anything over $2,000 in one deposit counts as large.
| Date | Deposit (demo statement) | Amount | Over $2,000? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 03/02 | Stripe Transfer | $1,840.00 | No |
| 03/09 | Remote Online Deposit | $650.00 | No |
| 03/16 | Zelle Payment From J Demo | $300.00 | No |
| 03/27 | Stripe Transfer | $2,215.40 | Yes |
Only the $2,215.40 transfer crosses the line. Its description names Stripe, but whether that's clear enough is the lender's call. Have a one-line note ready, plus the matching Stripe payout record, before anyone asks.
How can you pre-check your Chase statements before the lender does?
Put each month into a spreadsheet and run four quick checks. Our bank statement converter builds the file with Money in, Money out and Balance columns. Its Summary sheet compares the calculated closing balance with the printed one and marks each month pass or fail.

- Each month passes. A pass means the opening balance plus money in minus money out matches the closing balance on the PDF. A fail means a row was misread or a page is missing, so check the PDF before you send it.
- The months chain. August's closing balance should equal September's opening balance. If it doesn't, there's a gap the lender will spot too.
- Big deposits are explained. Sort Money in from largest to smallest and write the source next to anything over half your monthly income.
- Transfers have both ends. Filter descriptions for "transfer". If money came from another account of yours, get that account's statements as well.

Send the lender the original PDFs, never the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is your working copy. If any heading or line on the statement is unclear, our guide to reading each section of a Chase statement walks through them.
What mistakes delay a loan file?
Most delays come from a document that's incomplete or out of date. Each one below has a quick fix.
Sending activity instead of a statement
A screenshot or a list of recent activity isn't the statement Chase issued. Fix: download the monthly PDF from Statements & documents.
Missing pages
The CFPB warns that lenders may reject incomplete documents. Fix: open each PDF and confirm the page count before you upload it.
Gift money with no paper trail
If a relative helped with the down payment, the deposit alone doesn't prove it was a gift. Fix: the CFPB says to get a signed statement from the giver saying the money is a gift.
Changing the statement
Never edit a statement, even to hide another account on a combined one. Fix: send it as issued and add a short note if something needs explaining.

FAQ
How many months of Chase statements do I need for a mortgage?
Usually two, for a purchase. Fannie Mae asks for the most recent full two months, or one full month on a refinance. Your lender can ask for more.
Will a lender accept Chase statements I downloaded myself?
Fannie Mae accepts statements downloaded from the bank's website if they clearly identify the bank. Most lenders follow that, but check with yours.
Do I need statements for my Chase savings account too?
Yes, if it holds money for the down payment, closing costs or reserves. Send statements for every account named on your application.
My Chase statement shows another account. Can I take it off?
Not on statements already issued. Chase can separate combined accounts for future statements only, so send the current ones complete.
Can I send my lender the Excel file instead?
No. Lenders want the statements your bank issued. Use the spreadsheet to find questions before the underwriter does.
