How far back Citi statements go depends on the account. Citi checking and savings accounts show up to 24 months of statements online, and older ones can be requested. Citi's older card pages give 12 months right away and up to 7 years online. Once you have the PDFs, you can convert your Citi statement to Excel and search years of activity in one place.
Quick answer: Citi bank accounts show up to 24 months of statements online. Archived ones arrive within 24-48 hours of a request and are free if issued within the last 7 years. For credit cards, Citi's older pages say 12 months right away and up to 7 years online, with older months requested.

How far back can you get Citi statements?
It depends on whether you mean a bank account or a credit card. Citi treats them differently.
For checking and savings, Citi's online bank statements page says you can immediately access up to 24 months of statements. Anything older is archived. Citi says archived statements become available within 24-48 hours of your request.
For credit cards, the newest figures we could find come from older Citi pages. A Citi card page marked 2011 says you can view and download the past 12 months right away. The same page says statements stay online for up to 7 years. Citi's card guide from 2016 explains how to request the older months. Menu names may have changed since then, so treat those pages as a guide, not a promise.
A newer account simply has less history. If you opened the account in 2025, 2025 is as far back as it goes.
How far back Citi statements go, by account type
Here is everything Citi publishes on this, side by side. The card column comes from older Citi pages, so check your own login before you rely on it.
| Checking and savings | Credit cards | |
|---|---|---|
| Online right away | Up to 24 months | Past 12 months (Citi page marked 2011) |
| Older statements | Archived, available on request | Online for up to 7 years, requested through Older Statements (2016 guide) |
| How long a request takes | 24-48 hours | 48-72 hours, then 7 days to download it |
| Cost | Free if the statement was issued within 7 years of the request | No fee listed on the pages we could check. Ask Citi |
| Source | Citi bank statements page and deposit agreement (current) | Citi card page (2011) and Citi Online guide (2016) |
The two timings are different on purpose. The 24-48 hours comes from Citi's current bank page. The 48-72 hours comes from the 2016 card guide. Use each one for its own product.

What 24 months looks like on a calendar
In October 2026, a 24-month window starts around late 2024. So a checking statement from January 2024 would already be archived. That's simple arithmetic from Citi's figure. Citi doesn't publish a rule for when each month moves, so plan as if the window rolls forward every month.
How to get older Citi bank statements
Request the archived months. Citi says they become available within 24-48 hours. If you can't find the request option in your account, call Citi.
- Sign in to Citi Online and open the statements for the account. Our guide to downloading a Citi statement PDF covers this part.
- Save every statement that's already online first.
- Write down the exact months you still need.
- Request those archived months. If the option isn't there, call Citi customer service at 1-800-347-4934 or CitiPhone Banking at 1-888-CITIBANK.
- Check back after 24-48 hours and save each one as a PDF.
Both numbers come from Citi itself. The first is listed on the bank statements page. The second is in Citi's Consumer Deposit Account Agreement. Business customers can use Citi's business line at 1-866-422-3091.
Do old Citi bank statements cost anything?
Not if they are recent enough. Citi's deposit agreement lists account statements among the services it provides at no charge, as long as the statement was issued within 7 years of the request. Clerical research is also listed as waived.
Citi doesn't say what happens past 7 years. We couldn't find a fee or a limit for those older statements. Ask when you call, and ask before you promise anyone a copy.
What about check images?
The deposit agreement says images of cancelled checks from the past 18 months are available through Citi Online. For older check copies, call the number on the back of your Citibank Banking Card.
How to get older Citi credit card statements
Citi's 2016 Citi Online guide describes a request system for older card statements. Here are the steps it gives:
- Sign in to Citi Online and click Statements (PDF).
- Go to the Older Statements section.
- Select the year and the month, then click Request. The status shows Processing Request.
- Use Make Another Request to add more months.
- After 48-72 hours, go back to Statements (PDF) and open Older Statement Request Status.
- When it says Ready for Download, save the PDF.
Don't wait too long on that last step. The same guide says requested older statements stay available for 7 days only.
That guide is from 2016, so the menu names in your account may be different today. If you can't find an older-statements option, call the number on the back of your card and ask for the months you need. We didn't find a card fee for copies in any Citi page we could open.
Common mistake: using the activity download for old months
The transaction download in Citi Online is handy for recent months. It isn't a way to reach old statements. Citi doesn't publish a date limit for it that we could verify. For older months, get the statement PDFs. Each one carries its own opening and closing balance to check against. Our post on Citi CSV files and PDF statements compares the two.
Accounts with no online statements
Some Citi accounts don't show statements online at all. Citi's bank statements page lists these:
- IRAs: online statements aren't available.
- Stand-alone CDs: online statements aren't available.
- Business accounts managed through Citi Online: paperless statements aren't available.
For any of these, call Citi and ask how to get copies. CitiBusiness Online is a separate system. Its help pages say statements there can be retrieved for up to 7 years.
Closing an account?
Download every statement first. Citi doesn't say how long a closed account's statements stay online. Saving them now takes a few minutes and spares you a phone call later.
How long should you keep Citi statements?
For most tax purposes, 3 years. The IRS ties record keeping to the period of limitations for each return. Some situations call for longer.
| Situation | How long the IRS says to keep records |
|---|---|
| Most returns | 3 years |
| You didn't report income worth more than 25% of the gross income on your return | 6 years |
| You claimed a loss from worthless securities or a bad debt deduction | 7 years |
| You didn't file a return, or filed a fraudulent one | Indefinitely |
| Employment tax records | At least 4 years after the tax is due or paid, whichever is later |
The source is the IRS page on how long to keep tax records.
Now compare that with Citi's windows. A checking account shows only 24 months online. So for a 3-year tax question, part of what you need is already archived. Citi's free copies cover 7 years. Past that, you're relying on your own files.
Worked example: Roshan Demo LLC needs 2023
In October 2026, the bookkeeper for Roshan Demo LLC needs every checking statement from 2023 for a tax question. Here's how it plays out.
- Citi Online shows about the last 24 months. That reaches back to around late 2024, so 2023 is archived.
- The bookkeeper saves everything that's online and lists the 12 months of 2023.
- She requests those archived statements. Citi says they arrive within 24-48 hours.
- All 12 were issued within 7 years, so the deposit agreement lists them as free.
- She checks that each closing balance matches the next month's opening balance. If they chain, no month is missing.
How to keep your own copies of Citi statements
Save them once a year. Citi's online history is a convenience, not an archive, and the oldest month keeps moving.
- Each January, open the statements for every Citi account and card.
- Save the previous year's PDFs in one folder per account per year.
- Name each file by year and month so the folder sorts itself.
- Back the folder up somewhere other than your laptop.
If you want the numbers in a spreadsheet too, our converter takes several PDFs at once. It downloads them as one spreadsheet with a column showing which file each row came from. On card statements it checks that the previous balance plus the rows equals the new balance. On bank statements it checks every printed running balance against the row before.

The Summary sheet shows the first and last transaction dates and the row count. A quick look tells you whether the year you meant to cover is all there.
