To download bank statements, sign in to your bank's website or app, open the statements or documents section, pick the account and the month, and save the PDF. Most large US banks keep around seven years of statements online, and you can ask the bank for anything older.
Quick answer: Look for a menu called Statements & documents (or Documents) after you sign in. Choose the account, then the year, then the statement, and save it as a PDF. Credit cards and loans often keep less history than checking and savings accounts.
The table below lists where each of 10 large US banks puts its statements, how much history you can reach online, and a link to our full guide for that bank. Where we couldn't confirm a detail on the bank's own pages, the cell says "See the guide" instead of guessing. You can also browse all bank guides or just the US bank guides.

Bank-by-bank notes
Chase
On chase.com, the Main Menu sits in the top left corner. Pick Statements & documents, then the account and year, and use the open or save icon next to the month you want. The phone app hides the same list under Profile & Settings, then Document manager. Full walkthrough: Chase download steps, or our guide to downloading Chase statements on the website and app for business accounts and saving a full year.
Bank of America
Open the account in Online Banking and switch to its Statements & Documents tab, where each month has a View PDF or Download PDF option. Business owners reach the same place through Accounts, then Statements and Documents. If the month you need is older than seven years, the Request Statements option is the route. See the Bank of America download steps.
Wells Fargo
Sign in to Wells Fargo Online and go to Statements & Documents. Statements save one at a time, so plan on a few clicks per month if you are gathering a full year. Card history is shorter than checking: two years versus seven. Read the Wells Fargo download steps.
Capital One
Capital One's website shows a view statements link on each account once you are enrolled in paperless. In the app, open the account and scroll right to the bottom of the screen to find statements. Details are in the Capital One download steps.
Citi
Citi says Citibank checking and savings accounts show 24 months of statements online, and archived ones arrive within 24 to 48 hours of a request. Card menus differ, so our step-by-step guide to downloading a Citi statement PDF covers cards, bank accounts and the app. To turn the PDF into a spreadsheet, see the Citi download steps.
American Express
Amex keeps card statements under Statements & Activity, and choosing a billing period gives you the PDF. About two years of transactions are visible online. Archived statements can be requested, and Amex says they show up within 24 hours. More in the Amex download steps.
U.S. Bank
Choose Accounts in the top menu, then the kind of document, the account and the year. In the mobile app, the main menu has a Statements & docs entry that works the same way. Follow the U.S. Bank download steps.
PNC
From Accounts, open the account and look for Account Quick View, which holds the Statements and Documents link and a View PDF button for each period. App users tap More, then Statements and Documents, and choose the account and year. PNC keeps different amounts of history by product, from 4 years on cards to 10 on investment accounts. See the PNC download steps.
TD Bank
TD Bank lets you review, print or save statements after you log in, sorted by account and date, and the app shows them too. TD says statements issued from April 2010 onward are free to reach, up to seven years back. The TD Bank download steps cover the rest. If you bank in Canada, TD Canada Trust has its own guide.
Truist
Truist puts statements in a document center inside Online Banking, and that center also works on a phone browser. Loans keep 24 months and mortgages 18, which is far less than the seven years on deposit accounts. Go to the Truist download steps for more.
Statement PDF vs. transaction history download
Many banks offer two different things that both look like a download. The statement is a PDF for a fixed period with a starting balance, every posted transaction and an ending balance. The activity export is a CSV or Quicken file built from whatever date range you type in.
The export is quick, but it only reaches back a short way. Wells Fargo's activity download defaults to the last 90 days and reaches up to 18 months on some accounts. U.S. Bank allows CSV, QFX or QBO files covering up to 18 months, and only on the website, not in the app. Chase's Spending Planner exports roughly two years. Exports also skip the opening and closing balances.
The PDF is the official record. Chase's deposit account agreement says alerts don't replace the monthly statement, and a lender or tax preparer will usually ask for the statement itself. The CFPB's loan application checklist lists "bank statements, two most recent" among the items to gather. If you are pulling records for a tax return, our guide to bank statements for a tax return covers how long to keep them.
Getting statements older than what's online
Once a statement drops off the online list, you have to ask the bank for a copy. What that costs depends on the bank, and few publish it clearly:
- Chase: any owner listed on a statement can request a copy (1-800-935-9935 for personal accounts, 1-800-242-7338 for business). Its 2026 personal fee schedule shows no charge for statement copies.
- Bank of America: use Request Statements for anything past the seven years shown online.
- Wells Fargo: call 1-800-869-3557 for statements older than the online window.
- U.S. Bank: paper copies come by mail and carry a fee on most accounts. For a closed account, call 800-872-2657.
- American Express: request archived PDFs from the statements page.
For the other banks, call the number on your statement or card and ask about both the wait and any fee before you order.
Password-protected or scanned PDFs
We couldn't confirm that any of these ten banks adds a password to its statement PDFs. A locked file more often comes from somewhere else, such as a document vault or a copy someone forwarded to you. If you have the password, open the PDF once and keep the original. Our converter will ask for the password, use it for that file and not store it.
A paper statement you scanned or photographed is a picture of text, not text. Software can still read it with text recognition, but the results are less exact, so compare totals and a few rows against the paper copy. A downloaded PDF from the bank is always cleaner than a scan.
Turning the PDFs into a spreadsheet
Once you have the statements saved, upload them to our bank statement converter to get Excel or CSV with every row checked against the printed balances. If the data is headed for your books, the QuickBooks import guide shows the next step.
Download questions
How many years of bank statements can I download?
Seven years is the common limit for checking and savings at Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, U.S. Bank, PNC, TD Bank and Truist. Credit cards, loans and mortgages often show less, such as two years for Wells Fargo cards or 18 months for a Truist mortgage.
Can I download a statement from the mobile app?
Usually, yes. Chase, Capital One, U.S. Bank and PNC all have a statements section in their apps, though the menu names differ from the website. Activity exports such as CSV files are often website only.
Is a CSV download the same as a bank statement?
No. A CSV is a list of transactions for dates you choose, without the bank's opening and closing balances. The PDF statement covers the bank's own period and is what lenders and accountants ask for.
Why can't I see last month's statement yet?
Statement periods don't always follow the calendar. At Chase, for example, a period can run from 28 to 32 days, so a statement can post a few days after the month ends. Pending transactions also wait for the next statement.
How do I get a statement for a closed account?
Call the bank. Online access often ends when the account closes, and U.S. Bank, for one, lists a separate phone number (800-872-2657) for closed-account requests.
